Why Is Amplitude So Difficult to Measure?
It is extremely hard to accurately measure ultrasonic amplitude! The amplitude we refer to mainly applies to transducers and boosters. There are two main reasons for the difficulty: high frequency and small amplitude.
The frequency is typically 19.5–21.5 kHz, while the amplitude is only 40–80 microns. Ordinary measuring instruments cannot handle this—they either fail to measure high frequencies or lack sufficient precision.
At present, only a laser vibrometer can provide accurate measurements. However, this equipment is expensive and complicated to operate. It is rarely available even in professional research institutions, let alone ordinary factories, so it cannot be widely used.
